We’re past the release of most of the summer’s big movies. SDCC is a fading memory. There’s still some life in the summer movie season, including Atomic Blonde (out tomorrow) and The Dark Tower (out next week), but the world has largely moved on to preparing for this fall’s movies. Two of those movies—Paramount’s Suburbicon and Amazon Studios’ Brad’s Status—saw trailers drop over the past couple days.
Let’s take a look.
Here’s the trailer for the long-gestating Coen brothers scripted, George Clooney directed Suburbicon:
Matt Damon stars as a family man, who also happens to be an angry and violent man, forced to defend himself and his family against other men who are probably worse than he is. Based on the trailer, it seems safe to say Suburbicon will be filled to the brim with the Coen brothers’ signature satirical take on the world. That’s a very good thing.
And here’s the trailer for Amazon’s Brad’s Status, starring Ben Stiller, Jenna Fischer, Michael Sheen, and Luke Wilson.
Who doesn’t need a (likely) heartwarming story about a guy who realizes maybe all of life’s bullshit doesn’t matter quite as much as his family does? The plot looks like it’s as straightforward as they come, but that’s not a knock against the movie or writer/director Mike White. Brad’s Status looks like it could be the comfort food of comedy, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Are you planning on seeing Suburbicon or Brad’s Status? What other fall movies are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments.
