Husbands, Wives, and Mothers

A couple big things happened in the Hollywood-adjacent world yesterday. Let’s take a look.

Husbands and Wives

Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have announced their separation. And apparently this is a big deal to people all over the internet. There’s a lot of mourning the loss of a Hollywood couple and a lot of speculation about what happened and who’s to blame going across the internet and maybe, just maybe, we should all chill and let these two adults live their lives.

Yes, they’re in the public eye. But they’re still just two people trying to live their lives. I hope we can let them do that.

Side note: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which I loved, is now available through digital storefronts and hits home media in two weeks. So maybe it’s time to stock up on tape and check that out.

The first official trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s mother! also dropped yesterday, and holy shit does this movie look good.

But this thing looking good shouldn’t be surprising. It’s a horror movie written and directed by the insanely talented director behind Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan featuring an incredibly talented cast. Headlined by Jennifer Lawrence, mother! also features Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, and Michelle Pfeiffer. That’s a hell of a lot of talent from the four main actors, with two Academy Award wins on 14 nominations between them—not to mention Aronofsky’s directing nomination for 2010’s Black Swan.

The trailer’s full of intensity and strong visuals, and I have a feeling this is going to be the kind of horror movie that lingers long after the credits have finished rolling. If it even comes close to the potential implied by the credentials of the people behind it and the overbearing discomfort of its first trailer, mother! could be something really special.

We don’t have long to wait to find out. mother! hits theaters September 15.
